Legend is a word thrown around a lot in football but for Steven Gerrard’s status at Liverpool, the title is fitting.
And it was on this day in 1999 that a young Steven Gerrard scored his first-ever goal for Liverpool Football Club. A slightly skinnier, more gangly player back then compared to his prime, Gerrard was a raw talent instantly loved by Kopites for his tenacious tackling.
Earmarked from early as a talent that would maybe captain his boyhood club, Gerard Houllier managed to fit a young Stevie Gerrard into his team as a full-back, before eventually moving him forward. With this drive into the box and powerful finish being his first goal, it was a sign of what was to come later down the line.
