The Most Beautiful Murals of Liverpool, Where Football Lives on Every Wall

At Life After Football we celebrate everything that surrounds the beautiful game, from the pitch to the culture that grows around it. Murals and tributes are a powerful way of expressing that love, and in Liverpool they have taken this art form to a whole new level. Football lives in the streets, on the walls, and in the hearts of the people. In this article we explore some of the most iconic Liverpool FC murals across the city, each one telling a story of triumph, legacy, and community.

Diogo Jota

The most recent and perhaps most poignant mural is the tribute to Diogo Jota. This mural is made by artist John Culshaw after the tragic passing of the Portuguese forward and his brother, André Silva. Depicting Jota in celebration, capturing the joy he brought to Liverpool fans and ensuring his legacy as the club’s number 20 will live on forever. Address: Halfway House Pub, Anfield

Jürgen Klopp

Two murals celebrate Jürgen Klopp’s impact on Liverpool, both in the Baltic Triangle. The first, painted in 2018 by Akse P19, shows Klopp with the words “We Are Liverpool, This Means More.” The second, created by artist Caleb after the club’s long-awaited Premier League triumph, features Klopp smiling alongside the Liver Bird and the league trophy. Together, they capture the essence of the man who transformed the Reds and brought the glory days back. Address: Jamaica Street, Baltic Triangle

Jordan Henderson

On Sybil Road stands the mural of Jordan Henderson. Artists painted it to mark Henderson’s leadership during Liverpool’s 2020 Premier League win. Moreover, The Redmen TV commissioned the mural and included a message of gratitude to Alder Hey Hospital. In addition, the design highlights Henderson’s role as captain on the pitch and ambassador off it. Address: Sybil Road, corner of Anfield Road

Henderson & Hansen

Artist Paul Curtis created this mural to link Liverpool’s two most recent title-winning captains: Alan Hansen, who lifted the First Division trophy in 1990, and Jordan Henderson, who ended the 30-year wait in 2020. Side by side, the pair embody Liverpool’s tradition of leadership and success. Address: Old Barn Road, corner of Stonehill Street

Anne Williams

Painted by Paul Curtis, this mural honours Anne Williams, mother of Hillsborough victim Kevin Williams, who fought tirelessly for justice after the disaster. It shows her with fist raised in triumph following the Hillsborough Independent Panel in 2012, symbolising strength, resilience and dignity. Address: Anfield Road, next to Anfield News General Store

Ian Rush

Immortalised in May 2022, Liverpool’s all-time leading scorer Ian Rush stands proudly on a mural opposite Anfield’s Main Stand. Celebrating his 346 goals in 660 games for the Reds, the artwork cements Rush’s legendary status in the shadow of the stadium where he made history. Address: Alroy Road, opposite Anfield’s Main Stand

Steven Gerrard

Liverpool’s greatest modern captain is honoured twice in Anfield. The first mural, painted by John Culshaw on the Sandon Pub in 2021, was chosen by fan vote and pays homage to Gerrard’s unforgettable leadership. The second, on Dinorwic Road, features his portrait alongside the iconic number 8 shirt, a symbol of his enduring legacy. Address: The Sandon Pub, Oakfield Road & Dinorwic Road, Anfield

A City of Stories

From legendary managers and captains to campaigners for justice and unforgettable forwards, Liverpool’s murals are more than street art. They are stories painted on the city’s walls, reminders of triumph and tragedy, and proof of how deeply football runs through the veins of its people.

Honourable mentions go to Mohamed Salah, celebrated both in the city centre and near Anfield with stunning murals. In addition, Trent Alexander-Arnold, whose portrait close to Anfield symbolises the dream of a local boy reaching the very top. Furthermore, Ray Clemence and Alan Kennedy are also remembered through artworks that honour their legacy in Liverpool’s history.
