The Messi Cup: Shaping the Future of Football in Miami
This December, the world’s attention turns to Florida for The Messi Cup. Created by Lionel Messi, the international youth tournament will unite eight elite under-16 academies for a week of world-class football and inspiration. From 9 to 14 December, Inter Miami’s Chase Stadium will become a global stage for the next generation of talent. More than a competition, The Messi Cup is a celebration of youth, passion, and the timeless beauty of the game.

A Global Stage
The Messi Cup will feature 18 matches played over six days, with teams split into two groups of four. The group stages will determine who advances to the playoffs, followed by a third-place match and the grand final. The tournament lineup reads like a who’s who of world football: Chelsea, Manchester City, Barcelona, Atlético Madrid, River Plate, Inter Milan, Newell’s Old Boys, and Inter Miami. Each side represents not only its academy’s talent but also its nation’s football culture, bringing together different styles and philosophies in one unforgettable event.
Messi shared his excitement on social media, saying he was proud to host such an event where the “future of the game will be on full display.” Beyond football, the event promises activities and experiences that reflect the joy and inclusivity Messi has always embodied.
Talent Meets Opportunity
Organised by Messi’s production company, 525 Rosario, the tournament aims to highlight skill, teamwork, and connection. CEO Tim Pastore described The Messi Cup as “the meeting point between the football of today and the players of tomorrow.” That vision shapes every part of the event, from its format to Miami’s role as a global football hub.
By bringing together clubs from Europe and South America, Messi ensures that young players experience the diversity of modern football at a formative stage. The emphasis is not only on winning, but also on learning, respect, and the power of community that transcends the sport itself.
A Lasting Impact
While The Messi Cup will deliver world-class youth football, it also reflects Messi’s lasting influence beyond his playing career. His goal is to inspire the next generation to dream bigger, work harder, and play with joy. What’s more, for many of these young athletes, this event will mark the beginning of their own journeys toward greatness.
As the lights shine on Chase Stadium this December, The Messi Cup will serve as both a competition and a legacy project, highlighting that the greatest players never stop giving back to the game that made them.
