Sabrine Ellouzi Interview: A Voice for the Next Generation

Sabrine Ellouzi carries her identity with pride, on the pitch and far beyond it. Her creativity shows in how she plays, cooks and tells her story. Sabrine Ellouzi is nominated for the Life After Football Fashion Player Awards, and in our interview she reflects on style, ambition and what it means to be a voice for the next generation.

Style as Identity

For Ellouzi, style is not just something she wears. It is a language. “I am very authentic in my clothing style. I like many things and I show that. The creativity I have on the pitch returns in how I cook and in what I wear. I choose what fits me, not what others say I should wear,” she says.

Her Dutch and Tunisian roots colour that expression. “I also look at styles from other countries. Sometimes they are one step ahead. But in the end I choose what feels good for me. My background adds colour to my style, but it does not limit me.”

One piece stays closest to her heart: “I often wear a necklace with the continent of Africa. It stands for where I come from and who I am. It is a piece of identity.”

Dreams in Motion

Ambition runs through everything Ellouzi does, on and off the pitch. For her, strength is not only about winning but about growth. “Being a champion means challenging yourself every day. Not giving up when things do not go straight up. Wanting to learn. That is a champion.”

Her biggest dream reflects that mindset. “Playing a big tournament with Tunisia. Preferably a World Cup.” Another dream lives outside of football. “One day I want my own restaurant, where food connects stories.”

That connection is already coming to life through her cookbook. “It was so much fun to make. I love cooking, so it felt natural. The book includes recipes from players I have played with. Everyone was excited. So it became a book about food, but also about stories and resilience.”

She included heavy stories too. “Because being a champion is not only about trophies. It is also about coming back after two ACL injuries. About continuing when things get tough. I wanted to show that resilience.”

Visibility and Voice

Ellouzi speaks openly about her role as a woman in football and what visibility means. “Taking responsibility. Going after your ambitions. Daring to be unique. And showing that women do more than train and play. It matters that you speak up,” she says.

She is aware of the role she plays for girls of colour who do not always see themselves represented in football. “I know that for some girls I am different from the average national team player. Because of my background they might feel seen sooner. That is why I want to give back.” She does that as an ambassador for KNVB World Coaches, supporting training programmes in different countries. “You can show your face and contribute.”

For her, the change women’s football needs most is simple. “That all women can live from the sport. I do not say everything needs to be equal, but players should not need three jobs next to football. They should be able to choose.”

And when she speaks to the next generation, she keeps it simple but powerful: “Always keep dreaming. Never stop doing what you love. Find people who make you stronger. And be yourself, because that is your biggest power.”
