It was a momentous day for football in the UK, as the country’s football calendar celebrated women’s football.
Records were broken across the Women’s Super League, in which a North London Derby was played out at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The record attendance was broken for a second time this season as 38, 262 fans witnessed Spurs host Arsenal, who ran out winners thanks to their captain.
The Scottish international Kim Little is our player of the weekend, putting in a true captain’s performance to lead her team to victory in the biggest of games. The deadlock needed breaking by the time Little controlled the ball on the edge of the box, before beating players and striking it home.
The Netherlands prolific forward Vivianne Miedema was also on the scoresheet, netting a late goal to add some breathing space in a tightly contested derby match. While there was a Merseyside Derby in Anfield’s first-ever WSL match, this game in the capital was very much the headline event and helped the winners, Arsenal, move just one point behind the league leaders, Chelsea. If you haven’t seen the goal Little scored in the 2-0 win, yet, get on it.
A little bit of magic from @ArsenalWFC's Kim Little!
