Our Player of the Weekend this time around is Gigi Buffon.
The 41-year-old legendary goalkeeper made a romantic return to Juventus this season, following a brief spell in Paris. Battling for the number one spot at Juve with Wojech Szczescny, the Old Lady’s oldest player was recalled to the starting line-up for their match against Bologna.
And Gigi Buffon made a huge impact, too. Ronaldo was on the scoresheet as the champions went into the final few minutes of the game holding a 2-1 lead. However, they were far from over the line just yet. As a powerful overhead kick from close range threatened to level the score, Buffon, recently up from the floor having dealt with a cross, produced a spectacular save to keep Juventus ahead.
The World Cup-winning goalkeeper tipped the ball over his crossbar, leaping into the air to deny what looked a certain goal. Incidentally, fans were quick to compare the save to one he made over 13 years ago on the biggest stage of all. Manning Italy’s goal in the 2006 World Cup Final, Gigi Buffon denied Zinedine Zidane extra-time header in a similar fashion.

For his ability to still make match-winning saves at the age of 41, this legendary goalkeeper is our Player of the Weekend.
