Easter Weekend has seen a fine batch of football served up, with several teams hunting for vital wins.
The La Liga title race might almost be done and dusted, but that hasn’t stopped Real Madrid from trying to salvage some positivity from what has been a difficult campaign for them. Seventh place Athletic Bilbao provided this late-season challenge to Los Blancos and it was their in-form forward, Karim Benzema who inspired the victory.
An excellent hat-trick with varied, composed finishes, continued form which has now seen the Frenchman net all eight of Real Madrid’s last eight goals. The previous record of such dates back to 1999 when Fernando Morientes scored 6 of Real Madrid’s goals, beaten at the Bernabeu thanks to two headers and a chipped finish late-on.
Real Madrid are trying to close the gap on their city rivals Atletico who occupy second place right now and the form of their number 9, our Player of the Weekend, is only sure to help them in their hunt to do just that.
