After the Champions League Final dominated the weekend, it is only natural that our Player of the Weekend comes from the biggest game of all.
A full-English final served up a fine competition between Liverpool and Tottenham, even if the game lacked some of the drama of the Reds’ last European Cup win. A 2-0 victory was the result of a professional performance from Liverpool, as Spurs failed to trouble their defence on many occasions and ultimately, were unable to beat our Player of the Weekend, Alisson Becker.
The goalkeeper didn’t have much to do in a nervy game, but as it reached the latter stages, the Brazilian goalkeeper was called upon for a flurry of saves. He denied Lucas Moura, Christian Eriksen and more, as he shut out Spurs when they were at their most dangerous. His stops were the platform for which Divock Origi could score the all important second goal, as a mixture of relief and ecstasy erupted for Reds in Madrid.
Alisson’s talented hands were deservedly wrapped around European football’s most famous trophy as a result of his performance.
