Nike Releases Energy Third Lifestyle Collection for Europe’s Biggest Clubs

Nike has released a new set of “third” shirts for five of its biggest European clubs. The twist? You won’t see any of them on matchday. They’re part of the Nike Energy Third collection, a lifestyle range with a retro look.

Third in name, lifestyle by design

The collection covers Inter Milan, Barcelona, Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and Tottenham Hotspur. Every shirt is long-sleeved, loosely cut and inspired by mid-to-late 1990s football. Nike designed them for the stands, the pub and the street rather than the pitch.

The naming takes a second to unpack. Nike officially calls Chelsea’s version the Chelsea F.C. Energy Third. But that isn’t the shirt the players will wear.

In fact, Nike’s own store keeps the two apart. There, Nike sells Chelsea’s on-pitch third kit as the 2026/27 Stadium Third replica and the Match Third authentic shirt. The Energy Third, meanwhile, sits on its own as a long-sleeve Dri-FIT shirt.

So “Third” tells you which kit family it belongs to. “Energy”, on the other hand, marks it as lifestyle. Nike even sells a Chelsea Energy Home shirt, which shows this is a full range rather than a one-off.

Back to the 1990s

The design brief is simple. Relaxed fits, thick ribbed V-neck collars and retro athletic fabrics, all pointing back to an era when replica shirts were baggy, bold and worn far beyond the stadium.

Most clubs also get their own design, with heritage badges and graphic layouts that nod to the golden age of replica shirts.

Additionally, Nike finishes every piece with a vintage-style jock tag near the lower hem. It’s a small detail, but it says a lot. In other words, these shirts belong in the wardrobe, not the dressing room.

Five clubs, five takes

Barcelona goes half-and-half, with grey on the right and black on the left. A sharp zig-zag splits the two panels, giving it an edgy, very 1990s feel. A large V-neck collar and bright mint cuffs reinforce the retro character.

Inter, by contrast, keeps it clean. A blue base carries a broad black stripe across the middle, with a black V-neck collar and black cuffs. A gold Swoosh on the chest adds a touch of class. The large “Inter” lettering mirrors the Pirelli logo, a nod to the club’s long-time former shirt sponsor.

PSG brings back an old-school long-sleeve look. An off-white base frames a bold red central panel, bordered by blue stripes. The kit design closely mirrors PSG’s early-era shirts, with a simplified crest and detailing to keep the focus on the iconic colour block.

Chelsea borrows from the club’s third-kit identity but plays it far more traditionally. The shirt is mostly Rush Blue with thin white pinstripes, and a retro crest on a white shield sits opposite a red-outlined white Swoosh. There’s no sponsor across the front, which makes it look even more like a shirt from another era.

Finally, Tottenham stays closest to home. The shirt takes direct inspiration from the club’s 2026/27 third kit, but swaps the polo collar for a V-neck and adds long sleeves. It’s the most recognisable of the five, with a retro twist.

Why it matters off the pitch

Football shirts stopped being just matchday gear a long time ago. Blokecore, vintage resellers and retro reissues have turned them into everyday fashion.

The Nike Energy Third collection leans directly into that. These shirts carry club identity without being tied to one season, one sponsor deal or one set of results. You can wear them with jeans on a Tuesday, and that’s exactly the point.
