Myron van Brederode Interview: Built for the Next Step

Some moves feel like the right step at the right time. For Myron van Brederode, Belgium has become that place, a setting where his game and mindset continue to evolve. Myron van Brederode is nominated for this year’s Life After Football Fashion Player Awards, and in our interview he opened up about his journey, sharing the lessons, support and style that shape who he is becoming.

A New Chapter

Myron van Brederode arrived at KV Mechelen this summer and immediately felt at home. “I feel loved by the fans and within the group,” he explains, and that sense of belonging has helped him settle quickly.

Having played in three countries before turning 24, he has gained a rare perspective on Europe’s football cultures. “The Netherlands is technical, even the lowest clubs want to play. Germany is hard work and direct. Belgium is more physical, with many French and African influences. For now, Belgium suits me best.”

Myron speaks with calm ambition when asked about his goals. He does not shout numbers or milestones. Instead, he focuses on dreams that match his talent. “I rarely mention hard targets. My dream is to play in a top-five league at a beautiful club, and to reach major tournaments like the World Cup or the Champions League.” His journey is still unfolding, but the direction is clear: steady steps upward, built on confidence and consistency.

The People Behind the Player

For Myron, growth has never been an individual effort. His support network is a quiet force behind everything he does. His family, girlfriend, and close friends keep him grounded in a life that demands constant discipline. “They help me stay focused. I have done this for a long time, and I know what works for me,” he says.

His grandfather stands out as a defining mentor. “We played together, talked a lot. He took me everywhere and gave advice.” His parents take over that role today, still guiding him when emotions run high.

“They correct me when I show attitudes on the pitch,” he admits with a smile. His inspirations extend to the players he watched growing up. Ronaldo for power and determination, Neymar for flair and fearlessness. Together, these influences form the foundation of Myron’s mindset: expressive, driven, and always learning.

Style and Expression

Off the pitch, Myron’s style mirrors his personality. “Different but relaxed,” he says. He avoids loud logos and unnecessary flash, leaning toward clean lines and calm tones. Comfort is key, and tracksuits rank as his favourite essential. Yet he is open to experimenting. “Sometimes it can be a little harder, like today,” he adds, hinting at a willingness to push boundaries.

He sees a link between fashion and football, even if they are different worlds. Both require confidence, both reward expression. Fans and teammates often compliment him on his outfits, and he keeps an eye on others around him.

“The best dressed in the team is Tommy St. Jago,” he says with certainty. And when asked what he will wear to the Fashion Player Awards, he gives the kind of answer that builds anticipation: “I won’t reveal it yet. One thing is certain, not a tracksuit.”
