People often say they don’t have discipline,” Michael explains. “But if you truly want something, you don’t need discipline — you simply do what’s necessary.”

This conviction changed his own life. Once a familiar voice on Dutch radio and television, he chose to leave public life for a calmer, more meaningful existence. Now living by the sea, he teaches personal growth and helps others live consciously.

For him, discipline isn’t about forcing yourself. It’s about making conscious choices based on a clear vision. Years ago, he wrote down exactly how he wanted to live — that list became his roadmap, and he still uses it today.

He compares life to sailing: “People think it’s always smooth and sunny, but in reality, you often face headwinds and unpredictable waves. You need to learn how to navigate them — just like in real life.”

Clarity is the foundation of Michael’s work. Whether writing, coaching, or speaking, he always asks: “Why do you do what you do? If you’re not asking that question, you’re probably living on autopilot,” he says.

In his bestseller Master Your Mindset, he explains how to reprogram your thoughts and behaviour. He likens the mind to personal software: “You can’t control everything in life, but you can control a lot — if you understand how your mind works. Belief in yourself is your greatest strength.”

And mindset, he stresses, is more than just positive thinking. “It’s not magic or pretending everything’s fine. It’s about recognising your patterns, asking better questions, and taking action.”

Pausing to Grow

To help people step back from daily routines and see their lives with fresh eyes, Michael Pilarczyk created Maximum Potential, a three-day event covering emotions, limiting beliefs, relationships, time management, and more.

His goal? More clarity, more energy, and a higher quality of life. “It’s not about becoming a millionaire — it’s about living fully, whatever that means for you.”

Finding Calm in a Noisy World

Michael’s own journey into reflection began during a challenging period. “I wasn’t depressed, but I didn’t see life clearly. I focused on the negative and felt a lot of fear.”

Meditation helped him slow down, quiet his mind, and reconnect with himself. That experience inspired the launch of his Meditation Moments app, now used by hundreds of thousands. From bedtime stories to breathing exercises, it offers an accessible alternative for anyone seeking calm without medication. “Meditation isn’t just a technique for me — it’s a lifestyle. Calm and clarity are powerful tools.”

Asking the Right Questions

What makes a “best life”? For Michael, it starts with the right questions: Why am I doing this? What truly makes me happy? What does my ideal life look like?

You don’t need all the answers right away — but you do need to take time to reflect. Even on social media, often a source of distraction, he advises mindful use. “The trap isn’t the platform — it’s how you use it. If it drains you, stop. If it inspires you, great. But don’t scroll your life away.”

His favourite motto is simple, but powerful:

I am the captain of my ship. I am the master of my fate.

Living the Lesson

Today, Michael divides his time between writing, teaching, and sailing. “For me, my best life means freedom: choosing how I spend my time, enjoying nature, and watching my dogs play.”

It didn’t happen overnight. “It’s been built step by step. You have to let go of what no longer serves you and keep asking yourself: is this the life I want?

His final advice is clear: “Enjoy your life. Discover your ideal way of living. Be kind to yourself and others. And remember — it all starts with you.”
