Throwback Thursday: David Beckham signs for PSG

Ah, the transfer window…

So often a source of drama and even bad memories for some moves that don’t happen or worse, happen and then turn bad, the 31st January is a life-changing day for someone every year. In 2013, there was a transfer that had the feeling of a no-pressure move, a move that would simply celebrate the career of a true great.

PSG were establishing themselves as a superpower at this point thanks to new investors – investors that were helping them wrap up the Ligue 1 title with ease. The money and the glamour of the Parisian club was making them an attractive, stylish prospect so, when David Beckham was looking for a place to play out the final six months of his football career, where better to got than PSG?

The former England captain arrived from LA in Paris, along with Victoria, his wife, and quickly became a power couple in the French capital. David, sharing the pitch with Zlatan and Edison Cavani among others, only made 10 appearances for the club but in 2017, was named in their Hall of Fame.

For bringing his trademark style and fashion, he fit right in at Paris, with his every move even watched by a French TV’s station’s ‘Beck-Cam.’ On his last appearance, whilst PSG celebrated the French title, they also celebrated Beckham’s career as he said an emotional farewell to the sport which he had such a huge impact on.
