Nuri Sahin’s journey from player to manager
Nuri Sahin’s transition from the pitch to the touchline marks a transformative journey from celebrated player to insightful coach. The 35-year-old was the head coach of Turkish side Antalyaspor for two seasons, before taking on a new role as an assistant manager at his childhood club Borussia Dortmund last summer. Now, he’s trying to use the lessons from his playing career to influence the next generation of Die Schwarzgelben.
Nuri Sahin’s playing career, marked by stints at prestigious clubs like Real Madrid, Liverpool, and Borussia Dortmund, set the stage for his current role in football management. After hanging up his boots, Sahin returned to Dortmund, driven by a profound sense of duty to the club that shaped his early football years. “I had the feeling that the club I had supported since my childhood needed me,” said Sahin in an interview with Sky Sports.

The commitment to coaching at Dortmund is just the beginning for Sahin, who sees this role as a stepping stone to larger aspirations. He has expressed a keen interest in eventually taking on a head manager position at a top European club. “One day I will be back and it will not be in four or five years. I am very ambitious. I want to lead a team.” Sahin hopes to use his managerial career to make as significant an impact on the game off the pitch as he did on it.
