How Wout Weghorst is trying to change the educational system

Wout Weghorst Educational System Heel Wijs

Besides being a footballer, Weghorst is also the general co-founder and director of Heel Wijs, which is a foundation that is striving to change and innovate the educational landscape for children in The Netherlands. They aim to give inspiring and sustainable education with a holistic approach. The school emphasizes the importance of a healthy lifestyle for effective education. It focuses on the total development of the body, mind and soul of individuals, which they achieve through paying attention to nature, health, children’s talents, and holism.

On the website of Heel Wijs, Weghorst states that as a co-founder and father of three daughters, he aims to integrate a holistic approach into education, allowing children to discover their unique talents in a playful way. ‘’Every child is unique and pure, and combining this with being well-connected to their environment is crucial to achieving this goal. This should be supported by everyone together: parents, children, and coaches.’’

Tailored education

Wijs is also a B4 international school, where children from two to thirteen years old are introduced to English from an early age so that it prepares children for a world where English is increasingly important. The foundation aims to create a learning environment where children can follow their own pace, tailored to their individual needs. Children will have the freedom to choose their own learning path based on their talents and interests.

Once Heel Wijs obtains municipal approval regarding spatial planning, they will officially open their first location where they will accommodate 70 children.
