FundingBase sets up the play – who will head it in?
The phenomenal goal by Dennis Bergkamp against Argentina in 1998, the stunning diving header by Robin van Persie against Spain at the 2014 World Cup, and the average investment through FundingBase don’t often find themselves in the same conversation. In fact, this might be the very first time. However, they do share a key similarity: without the right preparation, they wouldn’t have happened. While Frank de Boer and Daley Blind relied on their ‘golden left foot,’ Raymond Spenkelink and Stefan Woestenenk from FundingBase depend on their expertise and the right network.
Spenkelink shares, “My Oranje fever really took off during the 2014 World Cup. I was there in Brazil when Van Persie scored that header, and we thrashed Spain 5-1. It was my first major tournament, and since then, I’ve missed very few matches of the Dutch national team. I attend both home and away games, and this summer, I watched six of Oranje’s matches at the European Championship.”
Invest your money
On the business side, the men from FundingBase are increasingly venturing into the football world. FundingBase facilitates business and real estate financing through professional parties, but also via wealthy individuals. More often, these investors are (former) footballers who are stepping into the role traditionally held by banks. Spenkelink explains, “Through us, people can invest in private loans. Essentially, they’re financing our clients directly. Many (former) footballers have substantial wealth or are in the process of building it. We assist them by presenting carefully screened financing requests. These often involve mortgage-backed loans with a good balance between risk and return. In the current market, interest rates of 7 to 8% are common. For cases with slightly higher risk or time pressure, the returns can be even higher.”
FundingBase has been a steady partner of Life After Football for about a year now, and as a result, their (football) network has expanded nicely. Spenkelink adds, “In 2014, I watched Ron Vlaar head away balls from the stands in Brazil. Ten years later, he was our captain at Life After Football’s Footgolf Event.”
Gentlemen’s Dinner
In September, they’ll be attending the Gentlemen’s Dinner organized by Life After Football. Woestenenk remarks, “We’re looking forward to another successful event and hope to share with (former) footballers the investment opportunities that FundingBase offers. FundingBase sets up the play – who will head it in?”
