Former Real Madrid star Sami Khedira now brews coffee
Sami Khedira, once celebrated on the pitch for clubs like Real Madrid and VfB Stuttgart, has now taken his passion off the pitch and into the world of coffee. Launching his brand, Balira Coffee, Khedira uses his experience of playing across Europe to create the perfect cup of espresso.
Sami Khedira’s love for coffee began nearly a decade ago when he played in northern Italy for top-flight side Juventus. His exposure to northern Italian culture, specifically its world renowned espresso, caused him to become fascinated with the art of brewing high quality coffee.
His quest for the ideal espresso led to the creation of his coveted TURIN Blend, the brand’s original roast. “Turin is where I discovered what a real espresso was,” Khedira shares. “Since my time there, coffee has had a very special meaning to me”. The coffee culture of Turin influenced Khedira to create his signature blend with a mix of chocolatey and nutty flavors, creating a unique and tasty cup that brings a northern Italian essence to his brand. Balira Coffee is dedicated to producing coffee that is not just good, but also culturally unique. Balira Coffee offers unique blends inspired by cities close to Khedira’s heart such as Madrid, Stuttgart, and Berlin.

By using hand-picked, sun-dried beans, the coffee is not only CO2-neutral, but also directly sourced, fair traded, and traceable. By ensuring fair labor and trade practices with these local economies, Khedira’s company contributes to the improvement and advancement of coffee-growing regions. This dedication to honesty and transparency ensures that every cup is filled with quality and ethically sourced coffee beans.
