Lamine Yamal was born on 13 July 2007 to a Moroccan father, Mounir Nasraoui, and a mother from Equatorial Guinea, Sheila Ebana. His mother was just 16 when she gave birth, while his father was also still a teenager trying to provide for his young family.
Money was so tight that two neighbours, Lamine and Yamal, helped his parents pay their rent before he was born. His parents promised they would never forget that kindness. When their son arrived, they named him after the two men who helped them through one of the hardest moments of their lives.

Rocafonda
Yamal grew up in Rocafonda, a working-class neighbourhood in Mataró, just outside Barcelona. It is an area he still proudly represents today through his famous “304” celebration, referencing the final digits of the neighbourhood’s postcode.
For him, Rocafonda has never been something to leave behind. It is something to carry with him.
Seven Years Old
At seven, Barcelona recognised what everyone around him had already started to see. His talent was impossible to ignore, and he joined La Masia, the academy that had already produced players like Xavi, Andrés Iniesta and Lionel Messi.
While most children his age were simply enjoying football after school, Yamal was already entering one of the most demanding development systems in world football.
Records Arrived Quickly
Everything accelerated.
At 15, he became Barcelona’s youngest-ever debutant in La Liga. A few months later, at 16, he became the youngest goalscorer in La Liga history, breaking a record that had stood for nearly a century.
His rise barely slowed down. At UEFA EURO 2024, he became the youngest player ever to start a European Championship final before helping Spain lift the trophy. It confirmed what many already believed: football was witnessing the arrival of a generational talent.
A World Cup at Nineteen
Two years later came another milestone.
Still only 19, Yamal helped Spain win the 2026 FIFA World Cup, adding football’s biggest prize to a career that had barely begun. For most players, winning a World Cup defines an entire career. For Yamal, it became another chapter.
It also completed one of football’s most remarkable rises. From a family that once relied on neighbours to help pay the rent to becoming one of the faces of world football, his journey never lost sight of where it started.
