On the Pitch

Ruud Gullit was a footballing force of nature — powerful, graceful, and ahead of his time. He starred for Feyenoord, PSV, Sampdoria, Chelsea and most iconically, AC Milan, where he won multiple European Cups and Serie A titles. In 1987, he won the Ballon d’Or and soon after captained the Netherlands to victory at UEFA Euro 1988. With his dreadlocks and dominant presence, he became a global football icon, playing across midfield and attack with elegance and intensity.

Off the Pitch

After retiring, Gullit became a cultural figure in his own right. He managed Chelsea, Newcastle, and LA Galaxy, and transitioned into broadcasting, where he now appears regularly as a pundit. He’s also written books, DJ’d professionally, and advocated for diversity and inclusion in sports. Fluent in several languages and active across Europe and the U.S., Gullit remains one of football’s most recognizable and outspoken voices off the pitch.
