On the Pitch

Reza Ghoochannejhad, affectionately known as “Gucci,” built a memorable career as a clinical forward across several continents. He featured for clubs such as Charlton Athletic, Heerenveen, APOEL, and Sydney FC, always bringing versatility and an instinctive eye for goal. His most prolific spell came in the 2016–17 Eredivisie with Heerenveen, where he scored 19 times and became the first Iranian to net a hat-trick in a top European league. On the international stage, he struck 17 goals in 44 caps for Iran, including the nation’s only goal at the 2014 World Cup against Bosnia and Herzegovina. Ghoochannejhad concluded his professional journey at PEC Zwolle, retiring in 2021 and leaving behind a legacy as one of Asia’s most admired footballing exports.

Off the Pitch

Since retiring in 2021, Ghoochannejhad has embraced a low-profile, family-oriented life while quietly investing in charitable and personal projects. A polyglot fluent in at least four languages, he holds a degree in law and political science from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam — a testament to his intellectual curiosity beyond football. Passionate about music, he’s also a skilled violinist. Though he keeps his ventures private, he’s known for supporting youth education initiatives in Iran. Residing between the Netherlands and abroad with his family, “Gucci” continues to blend cultural awareness, humility, and ambition — building a legacy that reaches far beyond the pitch.
