Maarten Paes
Nationality
Dutch / Indonesian
Date of Birth
14-05-1988
On the Pitch
After developing in the Netherlands, Paes moved to the United States, where he played in MLS for FC Dallas. There, he established himself among the league’s best goalkeepers, winning the 2024 MLS Save of the Season award and earning a place in the 2024 MLS All-Star team.
After Dallas, Paes moved to Ajax, bringing his career full circle. As the club he supported as a child, Ajax represents both ambition and emotion, while Paes continues to grow as a modern goalkeeper with maturity and purpose.
Internationally, Paes represents Indonesia, a connection that carries deep personal meaning. In his very first game for the nation, he saved a penalty against Saudi Arabia, quickly becoming a national hero.
Off the Pitch
Away from football, Maarten Paes is focused on building a life beyond the game. His time in Dallas opened him up to new cultures and experiences, shaping the way he sees himself: not only as a goalkeeper, but as a person first.
Paes also has interests outside football, including golf, padel and business. One of his most personal projects is the development of his own goalkeeper glove under the brand Calma, created around his own idea of performance, detail and feel. For Paes, whatever he does has to feel authentic and aligned with who he is, fitting naturally within his personal brand rather than existing as a separate project.
Representing Indonesia has given him a large platform, and Paes is aware of the responsibility that comes with it. His ambition is not only to perform, but also to inspire and leave a positive impact beyond the pitch.
