The new European football stadiums opening in 2025

As football continues to grow, the year 2025 promises to elevate the fan experience to unprecedented heights with the opening of several state-of-the-art stadiums in Europe. From futuristic designs to sustainable construction practices, these venues reflect the ambition of clubs and cities to redefine how the beautiful game is experienced. Here’s a look at the most anticipated football stadiums debuting in 2025.

FC Barcelona Camp Nou

Many FC Barcelona and football fans’ hearts were aching when the Spanish club decided to completely renovate its stadium. The club has spent at least 700 million euros to renovate its iconic Camp Nou from the ground up. The old Camp Nou was almost completely destroyed and has now been modernised and expanded. FC Barcelona has also made sure that the new stadium is sustainable by adding solar panels, geothermal energy and a new recyclable water system, which is important for the future of the sport. It also features a skywalk, similar to the one in Tottenham Hotspur’s Stadium, which will provide valuable income as a tourist attraction.

The new Spotify Camp Nou will be able to host 104,200 fans once it’s fully renovated, which makes it Europe’s biggest football stadium. The expectation is that FC Barcelona will play its first match on the new ground in February 2025.

Estadio La Cartuja (Spain)

The Camp Nou is not the only Spanish stadium that has been renovated. The Estadio La Cartuja, the home ground of the Spanish national team, is also undergoing some much-needed modernisation. The capacity will be upgraded from 57,600 to 75,000 seats and the exterior will be modernised. The biggest modification, however, is the removal of the athletics tracks, which lowers the level of the pitch and brings the stands closer to the field.

The infrastructure and public transport around the stadium in Seville will also be expanded as the stadium will host the 2030 World Cup. Given the planned redevelopment of the football stadiums of Real Betis and Sevilla FC in the upcoming years, both clubs will also temporarily move to La Cartuja

Everton Stadium (Everton)

At the end of the current season, Everton will say its final goodbye to their beloved Goodison Park. During the last few years, the club has been building a new stadium on the banks of the River Mersey on Liverpool’s famous waterfront. The new ground, which will have a capacity of 52,888, has already won plaudits with its eye-catching design which has brilliantly incorporated the surroundings.

Once Everton Stadium is open, it will become Engeland’s 8th largest football stadium. The ground will also be a host venue for UEFA Euro 2028.

Ankara Stadyumu (MKE Ankaragucu)

MKE Ankaragücü will move from its 82-year-old Ankara 19 Mayıs Stadium to its new modern arena at the start of next season. The new ground will have an increased capacity (50,000 seats) and features several innovative features. The stadium in the Turkish capital will not only be a venue for football matches but also a space for cultural and social life. Shops, restaurants, museums, and retail spaces will surround the complex, which will also include zones dedicated to various other sports including boxing, archery, and table tennis. The modern venue also meets UEFA’s highest standards, including its earthquake resistance, and is likely to feature a European final in the upcoming years.

Other new stadiums

These are not the only new stadiums set to open in 2025. A new modern national stadium of Belarus is set to open its doors in Minsk next year. The venue will have a capacity of 33,000 and is fully paid for by the Chinese government.

Two new football stadiums are also set to open in Poland. Firstly, the Stadion Miejski W Katowicach of the Polish top-flight team GKS Katowice has been one of the most anticipated arenas in the country. Secondly, Odra Opole is also set to play in its new Stadion Opolski, which features a beautiful modern design. Finally, first-division side Górnik Zabrze will also complete the build of its fourth stand.
