TBT: The Battle of Old Trafford

It’s 2003 and the footballing landscape, in England at least, looks very different.

At this point, only three clubs had ever won the Premier League title since it’s inception; Blackburn during an unlikely, money-backed but albeit thrilling season in the mid-nineties, Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United and Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal.

The latter were simply dominating top-flight football in their country and the rivalry between the two managers, the two sets of fans and the two captains, Roy Keane and Patrick Vieira, was the stuff of football cinema. Countless times the nation sat back and watched the drama unfold as, when United and Arsenal met, sparks always flew.

The two best attacking sides in the division at the time and both with the capability of getting nasty when needs be, met at Old Trafford early in the 03/04 season – a season which would go on to be the greatest in Arsenal Football Club’s history, as they finished the league campaign as unbeaten champions. But here, in game six, it could have all ended so soon.

Zero goals but 100% drama, here is the best one minute of football you’ll see today.
