Player of the Weekend: Sydney Leroux
We’re celebrating an incredible personal achievement with our Player of the Weekend title, as World Cup winner, Sydney Leroux returned to football just three months after giving birth.
The USA international was training with her team Orlando Pride up until 5 months into her pregnancy, before giving birth to her newly born daughter in June. Three months and one day later, she is back in the first team. Coming off the bench on 88 minutes, she was greeted with a fine ovation from teammates and supporters.
After the game, Sydney Leroux said on Twitter: “It’s been a long road but I did it. 3 months and one day after I gave birth to my baby girl.”
I love this game. This past year was filled with so many ups and downs but I made a promise to myself that I would come back. No matter how hard that would be. It’s been a long road but I did it. 3 months and one day after I gave birth to my baby girl. pic.twitter.com/t89zsaAVSh
