Player of the Weekend: February 25th
If we were smart, we could probably just have this article saved as a draft, to be published every now and then when Lionel Messi does what he does best.
Because, not for the first time, nor even the second, the third, fourth or fifth time, Lionel Messi was the Player of the Weekend.
The goat, himself, netted a sensational 50th hattrick of his career against Sevilla, opening his account for the match with a stupendous volley. That goal levelled the scores in what was a fiercely competitive La Liga match in Seville, that saw Barcelona win 4-2.

The Catalan side were far from their brilliant best, but their talisman was at the peak of his powers. Seeing so much of the ball, his passing was always a threat along with his direct running and of course, his finishing. The volley was a half-chance for most players, but Messi lashed it home with perfect technique as if he would have scored that goal 99 times out of 100.
A curling effort and a cute lob made up the Barca captain’s hat-trick, whilst in the dying moments, a delightful pass laid on Luis Suarez for him to end a five-game run without a goal. Truly a Messi masterclass from our Player of the Weekend.
