Player of the Weekend: 4th February

Ice and snow in midweek had threatened to put some football on freeze, but a heated weekend of league action across Europe has more than thawed off any of the frost.

As deadline day ended, a number of players rushed to new clubs whilst others remain put. And one man who was on the move this transfer window was Gonzalo Higuain, the now former Real Madrid, Napoli and Milan striker.

He has joined Chelsea from Juventus on a loan deal that will see the Blues finally land the striker seen to solve their problems, as they look to get the best out of Eden Hazard whilst also adding an additional goal threat. And, as soon as his second Premier League appearance, the Argentine forward may have proved that he is the man for the job.

A ruthless finish to open the scoring on Saturday afternoon at Stamford Bridge against managerless Huddersfield and later, a spectacular long-range effort, secured a fine day of work for Chelsea’s new number nine. What’s more is that Eden Hazard, Chelsea talisman, returned to form as well with a brace of his own.

A 5 nil win over their Yorkshire opponents was just what Sarri would have wanted, following an embarrassing defeat to Bournemouth in midweek. For providing much-needed inspiration to his new team, Higuain is our Player of the Weekend.
