BBC releases new Mbappé documentary about his rise to fame

The BBC has recently unveiled a new documentary that dives into the life and career of French football phenomenon Kylian Mbappé, following his journey from a young talent in Paris to a world-renowned cultural icon. The film, titled “Mbappé”, explores the origins behind his rise to fame and his massive influence both on and off the pitch.

“Mbappé” develops Kylian’s unique journey through interviews from football legends such as Thierry Henry and Arsène Wenger, as well as current French team manager Didier Deschamps. These figures shed light on Mbappé’s younger years, his rapid rise at AS Monaco, and his spectacular performance at the 2018 World Cup. The documentary also highlights his early life in the Parisian suburb of Bondy, his development at the prestigious Clairefontaine academy, and the specific moments during his life that impacted him as an individual.

The film is directed by Aaron Coates, and does not shy away from the challenges Mbappé faced, including the intense scrutiny following a missed penalty at Euro 2020 and the subsequent racist abuse. Such experiences highlight the resilience and maturity that Mbappé has had to develop rapidly in the public eye. Beyond the on-field heroics and setbacks, the documentary offers a glimpse into Mbappé’s role as a locker-room leader, particularly highlighted during the dramatic 2022 World Cup final where his performance solidified his status among football’s elite. This hour-long documentary, which was released on BBC iPlayer on May 14th, provides an intimate look at the life of one of football’s brightest stars, making it a must-watch for football fans around the world.
