adidas celebrate 70 years with the Copa Mundial

They are maybe the most iconic boots of all-time and still a popular model for the footballers of today – be they Sunday league or Champions League.

They are, of course, the Copa Mundial. It has now been a remarkable 70 years since adidas introduced themselves to the world as a small, humble, German sports brand and this boot was a landmark along the way. In honour of the company’s birthday, they have rejigged the famous Copa.

The COPA70 is based upon the original COPA from 1982, but instead features a staple from the present footballing world with a Primeknit upper on top of the new COPA 19+ soleplate. The boot combines past and present for a mash-up that represents seventy years of adidas innovation. Red studs have been included, too, as a reference to the look which was developed in the 1970s.

Also, look out for an original bluebird logo, placed on the tongue of the boot. The boot is also sold in special packaging and can be purchased with a choice of two laces. The modern short laces, or the retro, extra long laces that many used to wrap around the tongue and sole of the boot.
