Ebere Eze: ”I’m not trying to stand out, I just do what feels right to me.”

Creative, composed, and unapologetically himself: Ebere Eze brings his signature flair to New Balance’s newest drop. He might glide past defenders on a Saturday afternoon, but Eze’s style doesn’t clock out at full-time. Whether it’s his on-pitch finesse or off-pitch ease, the Crystal Palace midfielder has become one of football’s most quietly influential figures. Now, New Balance and Foot Locker tap into that same energy, linking up with Eze for the exclusive return of the iconic New Balance 740.

The Right Fit: Eze & New Balance

There’s something effortless about Ebere Eze, both in how he plays and how he presents himself. For New Balance, it was a natural move to place him at the centre of the brand, a face that reflects creativity, authenticity, and modern athletic identity. Eze also laces up in the Furon V8 on matchdays, repping the brand where it matters most. “In football, you’re always looking for any kind of advantage, mental, physical, tactical,” says Eze about the Furon V8 in an interview with VERSUS. “So if you’ve got a boot that feels good, that helps you do what you need to on the pitch, that’s everything. It’s about those marginal gains, any small edge you can get, you take it.” But the link goes deeper than performance. Eze’s style isn’t loud, it’s intentional. “I’m not trying to stand out just for the sake of being different,” he explains. “I just do what feels right to me. So yeah, the way I express myself is just a natural part of who I am. That alone makes it unique.”

The 740

Now, Eze brings that same calm confidence to the re-release of the iconic New Balance 740, a key figure in the campaign that sees the silhouette return with a new identity. Once a staple in New Balance’s performance lineup, the 740 is now reborn as a lifestyle sneaker with real legacy.

Originally released as a running shoe, the 740 has been reimagined for everyday wear. With breathable knit uppers, cushioned midsoles, and angular overlays, it’s made for comfort from early mornings to late evenings, or, as the campaign suggests, 7:40am to 7:40pm. The two new colourways, Shoreline/Blue and Washed/Burgundy, nod to early-2000s athletic aesthetics while staying grounded in today’s street culture.

Exclusively at Foot Locker

Launching July 17, the 740 drop lands exclusively at Foot Locker, both in-store and online. More than just a comeback, it’s a continuation of New Balance’s push to celebrate athletes who bring craft, creativity, and character to everything they do, on the field and off.
