Devyne Rensch about favorite item: ”It was a special moment when I bought them.”
A new wave of talent is catching the eye of football fans, scouts, and club executives. In the Dutch national team, a well-established name holds the right-back position: Devyne Rensch. With 156 appearances for Ajax’s first team and now playing this season on Italian soil with AS Roma, Rensch is considered one of the key players of the squad. But we wouldn’t be Life After Football if we didn’t look beyond his on-pitch performances: we talk about fashion.
Three years ago, Devyne Rensch won the coveted Life After Football Fashion Player Award 2022. And it was well deserved! The titleholder tells us about shopping with his then-Ajax teammates Ryan Gravenberch and Jurriën Timber, his style inspiration Steven Bergwijn, and his favorite item. “I had wanted them for a long time, but the color was hard to find. When I was finally able to buy them and put them on for the first time, I really thought: ‘Yes, these are the ones!”
How would you describe your clothing style?
Devyne Rensch: “Chic sporty. And a bit street. Yeah, that’s really my style. It kind of developed naturally. I mostly buy my clothes myself. I do get tips from people now and then. But for me, something really has to spark my interest before I’ll buy it. I have to really think it’s cool. Sometimes I go shopping with Jurriën (Timber) and Ryan (Gravenberch). The three of us have pretty similar styles. We usually check out places in Amsterdam. Not a Louis Vuitton store, but more like No Label, for example.”

Why do you think you were nominated for Fashion Player of the Year by Life After Football?
“If you look at my Insta, you can see I have a certain vibe. Someone who puts thought into how he dresses. I think my style looks pretty good in photos. I’ve been into fashion for quite a while now, I’d say since I was around fourteen. That’s when I started paying attention to what was trending and what I liked wearing. That’s how it started.”
How do you stay up to date with the latest fashion?
“In the Ajax dressing room, we do talk about the latest trends from time to time. Steven Bergwijn often shows up in the newest clothes. If something new drops, he’s already wearing it. And I know a few people in the fashion scene who keep me updated and message me when something new comes out.”

What completes an outfit?
“The shoes! The nicest pair of shoes I own is from Dior. I’m not sure of the exact name, but it was a special moment when I bought them. I had wanted them for a long time, but the color was hard to find. When I finally got them and put them on for the first time, I really thought: ‘Yes, these are the ones!’”
What retro item would you definitely not wear anymore?
“I used to have those shirts with a sexy photo of Beyoncé or Rihanna on them. I wouldn’t wear those again anytime soon, haha.”
