Beckham and Neville Return to Their Roots — With Salford City FC
The former Manchester United stars have taken a bold new step in their life after football, joining a new ownership group at Salford City FC. What began in the locker room has now evolved into a powerful football business alliance.
From the Right Wing to the Boardroom
In the late ‘90s, David Beckham and Gary Neville ruled the right side of Old Trafford. One was whipping in crosses, while the other was charging forward from full-back. Today, they’re teaming up again, but this time it’s not in boots — it’s in boardrooms. The former Manchester United teammates have joined forces once more, becoming part of a new ownership group taking charge of Salford City FC. Alongside Lord Mervyn Davies and Declan Kelly, Beckham and Neville are now leading the next chapter of a club they’ve long championed.
Life After Football — Still in the Game
While both legends have taken unique paths since hanging up their boots, they’ve remained deeply embedded in football’s evolution. Beckham founded Inter Miami CF, turning the American club into a rising global brand. Neville made his mark in coaching, broadcasting, and business, always vocal about the direction of the modern game.
Together with fellow Class of ’92 teammates, they have supported Salford City’s rise through the lower leagues for over a decade. But this move marks a new level of involvement — and a renewed ambition.
A Vision for Salford’s Future
The ownership announcement, made on May 8, 2025, outlines a fresh structure. The new consortium will hold 70% of the club, while the Class of ’92 retain 30%. All five Class of ’92 members — Beckham, Neville, Paul Scholes, Nicky Butt, and Ryan Giggs — will remain closely involved.
David Beckham said: “Salford played such an important role in my life growing up… it’s where I trained with United alongside my best mates every day, it’s where I bought my first house and where me and Victoria lived. I’m so proud to be part of a new ownership group alongside my mate as we begin the next chapter of Salford’s journey. Football is at the heart of this community and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for the Ammies.”
Gary Neville added: “I am passionate about Salford City. This is a unique partnership with a diverse range of minds and expertise, held together by a love of football. Football will come first, however it’s critical that we drive the Club towards sustainability in the next 4-5 years. I can’t wait for the next part of this journey.”
From Grassroots to Global Stage
This isn’t just another celebrity club buy-in. It’s a case of footballers reinvesting where they came from, turning local pride into lasting legacy. For Beckham and Neville, this isn’t about nostalgia — it’s about future-building, right where their journey began. With the backing of serious business figures and a renewed energy from its former footballing icons, Salford City is now positioned for bigger ambitions — both on and off the pitch.
