Nigeria have THE shirt of the World Cup

It’s been a busy week for Nike, unveiling PSG training wear, game-changing gloves and new boots, whilst also revealing what will surely be the shirt of the World Cup; Nigeria’s new home (and away) jersey.

The Super Eagles new shirt depicts some history and some culture from the African nation, with tributes to the team of 1994 captured in this brand new jersey. Sure to be a hit in the fashion world as well as on the pitch, the new get-up is also influenced by the Nigerian term, Naija.

Standing for all the energy, speed, fun and vibrancy of this Nigerian team as it heads to Russia, Naija is something that the players and the shirts they will adorn, try to embody. As Arsenal forward, Alexander Iwobi said upon the release of both the home and away shirts; “It is always an honour to wear the white and green. To compete this summer is not just our dream, it is also the dream of our fans. Together, we all represent Naija.”

He and national teammates, John Obi Mikel, Wilfried Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho were among the first to see the new kits – and their reaction was captured brilliantly.

As a natural contrast to the home kit, the away kit introduces a cool, refined vision of a classic Nigeria full-green strip. Expect to see both moving quick at the World Cup in Russia and around the world, as this is surely one of the most fashionable soccer jerseys on the market right now.
