This Saturday had a feeling of some realities that had been a long time coming…
It seemed destined that Manchester City would win the Premier League and do so in front of their own fans against their greatest rivals. Leading United 2-0 at half-time and playing their opponents off the field with a heavily rotated side, it seemed like we were all just waiting for City to be crowned. Step forward our Man of the Weekend.
This also felt like it had been a long time coming from Paul Pogba. Manchester United’s record signing has had a mixed season, even losing his place in the side at times. Add to that, rumours of links to Man City in the past fuelled more fire for the Frenchman it seemed. But it would be him who changed the game considerably, netting two goals in quick succession to turn the game on its head.
The equaliser, an epic headed goal from the big man, was met with scenes of both chaos and joy, as a packed Etihad Stadium couldn’t believe their eyes. Suddenly Pogba was at the centre of everything, making United tick and even putting in some big tackles (and fouls) that set the tone of the game.
Chris Smalling scored the winner for United, securing a famous 3-2 that will delay the title celebrations for Man City. However, there’s no doubting that Paul Pogba was the main man on derby day and as such, he’s our Man of the Weekend.
