This Fashion Friday we’re looking at the Amsterdam-based brand, Filling Pieces, who have just unveiled a basketball-inspired capsule.
Their design team revisited the formative years of their youth, looking for creative inspiration for SS18. One that is said to be have been universally acknowledged over at Filling Pieces was basketball. And it makes sense, as well all know, beyond the sport itself, basketball has changed the face of fashion on many occasions, changing sneaker culture forever. Style had to meet functionality as shoes became needed to look good on the court and on the street.
Their lookbook for this b-ball influenced collection is a youthful and nostalgic take on the sport with products modelled by two Dutch professional basketballers. This capsule consists of two brand new silhouettes which take inspiration from vintage basketball sneakers, yet are revamped with luxury materials and contemporary design that has become a hallmark of Filling Pieces.
LAY UP 2 ICEY FLOW
This silhouette comes in two materials – a premium all leather versions or a more sporty mesh/leather combo. Made from layers of the most supple leather they could find, this shoe really moulds to your foot. Alongside basketball inspired uppers, FP have included perforations on the side and toebox for added athletic detailing. The finishing details are an embossed basketball logo and press stud heel pull.
ALLEY OOP HIGH ICEY
This silhouette is inspired by the outdoor basketball shoes worn on the streets. The X cross straps – which mimic how athletes tape their ankles – keep your feet locked in for an unparalleled fit an unique athletic detailing. The triangular perforated pattern is a razor-sharp detailing in line with the shoes aggressive profile, which is further reinforced by the Icey sole.
